Formosa Street Post Office Closure Protest

On Saturday the 8th of March I joined the protest march against the closure of Formosa Street Post Office. If the closure of Formosa Street Post office is to go ahead as planned, the West London postal district of W9 will find itself without a Post Office. This would affect a population of 32,300 people for whom the nearest available post offices will be those in St Johns Wood or Bayswater.

We were trying to show how much further local people will need to walk in case Formosa Street post office closes. Around 300 people, including Tony Robinson from Channel 4s Time Team, had turned up to march from Formosa Street to Circus Road, St John's Wood Post Office. Read more about the campaign against post office closures here.

You can watch me campaign against post office closures in West Central via the 'video' section of this website.

Murad's Air Quality Pledges

Speaking at the Campaign for Clean London Air Quality Hustings on the 24th of April, I made the following pledges to help improve air quality in London during my 2nd term on the London Assembly :

  • Because the last Assembly Environment Committee scrutiny on air quality was done in 2001, it should investigate the air quality in London and how we can reach the latest EU directives and WHO targets before the 2012 Olympics. The investigation should also review the impact of the LEZ and CC initiatives on London's air quality.
  • Look at the possibilities of having monitoring stations installed, showing the public openly what the air quality is on certain London hotspots. These could be funded by using private or public sponsorship and would be similar to the advertising device installed on the junction of Old Street and Great Eastern Street that indicates traffic noise levels.
  • Get TfL to pilot Remote Sensing Devices (RSD) to provide the public with regular updates to show the public how thr LEZ improves air quality. The RSD is a system that can be used to sense emissions coming from vehicles passing by without them having to stop.

Murad joins terminal 5 flash mob against Heathrow expansion

On the 27th of March, I joined a group of protesters in a flash mob at the newly opened Heathrow terminal 5 to protest against airport expansion.

At exactly 11am, 500 of us unveiled our red T-shirts saying 'NO AIRPORT EXPANSION'. More about my involvement in the anti-expansion campaign can be found here.

Watch the Terminal 5 Flashmob video here.
