GCSEs in bangladesh and Pakistan Studies
On the 19th of June 2007 I organised an event to commemorate the 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Plassey (Polashi) together with the Cambridge International Examinations board (CIE). Also present at the event was Nobel prize winner, Professor Amartya Sen who helped launch the GCSEs.

I have written to the Department of Education and have asked them to make International GSCEs (IGSCEs) in Pakistan and Bangladesh studies available to secondary school pupils. I believe the availability of such GCSEs would be useful in helping the personal development of many pupils in the Bangladesh and Pakistan Communities of the UK as it would make them appreciate and better understand the history, geography, culture and environment of their ancestral homes.
The University of Cambridge International Examinations board (part of Cambridge Assessment) has already developed successful courses at International GCSE level for export to schools in South Asia called Bangladesh Studies and Pakistan Studies – while India Studies are in the pipeline. It would require very little adaptation to make such studies available here in the UK.
